When: Sunday, 2nd of October at 11am.
Where: the end of Happy valley road in Owhiro Bay.
ICSW is planning an easy coastal walk to Red Rocks and a fur seal colony on the south side of Wellington. On the rugged south coast of Wellington, a 30 to 40 minute coastal walk leads from Owhiro Bay to the Red Rocks (Pari-whero). The Red Rocks is an area of national significance with attractive geology and Maori history. This area was formed 200 million year ago by undersea volcanic eruptions.
The walk will start from the end of Happy valley road in Owhiro Bay on Sunday, 2nd of October at 11am and will continue on to Sinclair Head where there is a New Zealand fur seal colony. You can see bachelor males who were unsuccessful in their attempts to win the rank of breeding male in the colonies of the South Island in this area from May to October. There are also a number of historic places on the route and some excellent views and lookouts.
Note: since it is a four hour walk, we should take our own drink and food for launch.
